Vintage Ceramic Palmistry Hand – “The Hand” – Crazed Glaze – Oddity / Chiromancy

A wonderfully unusual vintage ceramic palmistry hand, produced as a decorative and educational representation of the art of palmistry (chiromancy).

The hand is beautifully modelled with a warm ivory/cream glazed finish, exhibiting an attractive all-over network of natural-looking crazing which gives the piece considerable character and an aged appearance. The palm is decorated with traditional palmistry markings, each clearly identified in elegant black script, including the Heart Line, Head Line, Life Line, Fate Line, Marriage Lines, Line of Apollo, Line of Mercury and Travel Lines.

The words “The Hand” are printed prominently across the integral pedestal base.

The piece is hollow underneath, consistent with its ceramic construction, and the underside shows some age-related surface wear and discolouration. There are also a few minor marks and imperfections commensurate with its age and previous use.

An especially appealing object for collectors of palmistry, fortune telling, medical history, folk art, curiosities and the wonderfully strange.

A fantastic decorative oddity with plenty of character — and one that looks particularly striking displayed among other vintage curiosities.
