Antique Cast Iron Cannonball / Solid Shot
Free UK shipping on orders over £50
A genuine antique cast iron solid round shot, believed to date from the late 18th to early 19th century. Measuring approximately 3.2 inches (81 mm) in diameter and weighing 2.2 kg (4.85 lb), the ball retains a wonderful aged patina with historic surface oxidation and a clearly visible casting seam, characteristic of period manufacture.
Solid iron round shot such as this was fired from smoothbore artillery pieces including small naval guns, carronades and field cannon. These projectiles remained the standard form of artillery ammunition for centuries before the widespread adoption of explosive shells.
This example displays an honest, untouched surface with no modern restoration, making it an excellent display piece for collectors of military antiques, maritime history or cabinets of curiosities.
Condition: Good antique condition with age-related corrosion and wear consistent with its age. Stable and ready for display.
